Guide to Palm Beach
Chill out in Palm Beach at the exclusive end of Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Palm Beach, or 'Palmy' as it's called by locals, lies at the end of a long peninsula, fringed by surf on one side and tranquil Pittwater on the other. Its golden sands and clear waters have inspired Sydney’s wealthy to build holiday houses on its leafy hills. But down on the ground, things still feel pretty modest when there's sand between your toes.
Fly into Sydney Airport (SYD) on either a domestic or international flight and drive just over one hour north to arrive at Palm Beach.
Thanks to its small size, you can get around Palm Beach on bike or foot. Alternatively, catch a taxi or self drive throughout the suburb.
Palm Beach is a popular destination for coastal activities, which is why it’s no surprise that the best time to visit is during the summer. During long weekends, public holidays and Christmas and Easter time, this suburb comes alive with locals and visitors alike. So if crowds aren’t your thing, avoid these peak times.
Hike through forests, beaches and bays
Take the easy 800m (0.5mi) access trail to Barrenjoey Lighthouse for panoramic views over the Central Coast, try the Beach to Bay walk amongst the local flora and fauna, or walk the 100km (62mi) Sydney’s Great Coastal Walk.
Dine at Palm Beach's best restaurants
You won’t go hungry with restaurants like Boathouse Palm Beach serving breakfast and lunch with a side of water views, and the award-winning restaurant Jonah’s, serving contemporary Australian cuisine paired with a 1,500-strong wine list.
See the sights of Home and Away
Palm Beach is the set of iconic Australian television soap Home and Away. The Official Home and Away Tour is a great way to see the key sights of "Summer Bay", such as the Summer Bay Surf Club, Alf’s Bait Shop and the rock pool.
Get out on the water
Palm Beach is home to secluded beaches and clear, turquoise water so whether you are floating in The Basin, or learning to surf with Manly Surf School you will see why enjoying the water at Palm beach is a must-do.
Ride the ferry to Ettalong
Take the historic ferry from Palm Beach to Ettalong, a pretty beach town on the Central Coast. On the ferry, get the ultimate view of the surrounds like Barrenjoey Lighthouse, the southern Central Coast beaches, Lion island and the nearby national parks.
